IMAGINE AGAIN.

a startup platform for participatory research into collective imagination about global issues

Above is a recorded memory reliving again and again as an invitation to you, unknown viewer(s), to a “low-skill /high sensitivity” simple activity researching object permanence and parameters on your virtual screen, in your virtual space….

feel free to watch/echo/spin off of this art-based research process to begin sensitizing to your own creative computer-held research….

ImaginGeistArt-based Research by Carmiella April 2023___ImGstWorkshopInformation-inter-iter-ationanimated_LiminalObjectDetectionParameters___

Sensitize: I invite you to silent spaciousness… Allow yourself to follow the visualization and imaginative storylines, staying curious longer before your previous associations have a chance to judge what is surfacing for you… [words, images, sensations, body positioning, emotions, sounds, and…]

Explore: What would you learn about the state of our global health if you were to research the ever-changing zeitgeist living in our species and other beings’ imaginations? If you knew how to beckon the most honest expressions from each of us about the nature of our profoundly unique perceptions of reality, how would you know if they add up to a coherent healthy whole?

I invite you to breath into your embodied senses, and imagine if in this moment that you live here reading, that internally, in your immaterial dreaming consciousness… All material walls are becoming immaterial senses… gently yet suddenly for you, the whole planet becomes viewed with a filter that obliterated doors, keys, locks, window shutters, and jackets… Where you once only saw impenetrable cement structures, mountains, and archways that obstructed your view, NOW all you can see are naked living Souls, imaginative electromagnetic fields tethered to fleshy scaffoldings, exploring the edges, dirts, crusts, and abysses of this world.

Imagine laying on your back, though you literally may remain sitting here reading the words on the screen, on sun-kissed moist grass. Feel the soil softening until it envelopes you and lusciously pulls you into its depths. Imagine, while breathing deeply, that you are sinking through grains of moist earth, through impossibly firm cold and hot layers of stone and magma as you feel no physical sensations… you are falling inward towards the center of the earth just watching and listening to the clarifying mirages of humans, creatures, fantasies, memories, histories, dreams, nightmares, truth, falseness, liminality, magic, illusion, and revelation. They are in motion on millions of rectangular surfaces, reflectant and flickering in constant motion.

Imagine you have sunken to the center of the Earth where abruptly a perfect 360 degree view locks in. Floating in suspended gravity while painlessly dancing in a fishbowl of magma, just tilt you head a few degrees and you are watching the media of an entirely different ImaginGeist, a different people, different ecosystem, different language, different context, different dilemma and different desire. Where is the most health? Where is the most need? Where is the most inspiration coming from and where is it headed? Where is the danger and how did it spark and then travel? Where is the courage and why is it valuable, what can it preserve and what can it change?

Imagine you watch a story seed in Nigeria that transforms, changes colors, messages, and meaning as it traverses a diagonal spiral to Tibet through millions of immaterial cityscapes, villages, coral reefs and rectangular flashing screens. Then turn your eyes a few degrees to the left north-west to watch the morbid eyes of a falling soldier hit the bottom of his screen only to burst into a cascade of paper cranes folding and unfolding into crimson shreds of paper, projected across thousands of rectangular screens and nonrectangular projections that were created simultaneously, serendipitously in that moment by a group of art students on the other side of the world experimenting with their first stop-motion animations. Neither side of the screens knew of their entanglement, yet if we do then do they?

While part of your impressively complex imaginative consciousness stays in this visualization probing into ideas of what you could see and hear, let another part of your mind consider whether this terrifying and exhilarating power of perspective is only available to you because you have the phenomenological lived experience of the birth and boom of the Internet? Why does experience matter for how far and complexly we can imagine and enact? If we can experience more virtually, we can surely…

What can art-based research into
the zeitgeists of our expansive imaginations
about pressing global issues
look, feel,
and sound like?

How can art equalize
dynamics in
 how we
understand,
seek and
achieve shared salutogenic goals?

2020… Building a new platform, from Nothing to Something

The ways in which we imagine and communicate about any subject --- be it the environment, technology, migration, public health, economics, equality etc. --- affects how many options we see in solving their problems. How can the virtual space be better utilized to playfully experiment with ideas about what is possible?

What if there were a platform for creative media able to channel attention, experimental collaboration, resources and results towards pressing global issues?

How does arts-based research into our imagination about global issues look, feel, and sound?

What does art-based research mean in practice? Carmiella’s full slide deck from ImaginGeist’s first ever in-person art-based research workshop at HFK, Bremen, exhibits her application of the Expressive Arts [EXA] Research Methodology and the participant students’ resulting artworks.
